Win tix to see Air Traffic in LA!

Bournemouth 4-piece Air Traffic are in the midst of their first-ever full U.S. tour and to celebrate we've got some stuff to giveaway!

1 grand prize winner will recieve:

  • 2 guestlist spots for the show @ Spaceland this Saturday (May 10th)
  • an autographed copy of their debut CD Fractured Life
  • and an autographed poster.

5 other winners will get all the above, only without the tix.

Enter below by commenting with who your favorite piano-inclined band is, and don't forget to include your email address. The contest is open to U.S. or Canada residents only. All entries must be received by 5pmPT this Friday (May 9th.)

The band's debut album, Fractured Life, was released in the U.S. a couple months ago via Astralwerks and is a nicely varied affair. It's got Keane-like piano balladry ("Shooting Star"), Blur-like guitar pop ("Charlotte"), and there's even a song that sounds like Morten Harket of A-ha fronting Elbow ("No More Running Away", live mp3.)

I saw 'em @ The Echo last year and they were really good live, so check 'em out on their remaining U.S. tour dates:

May 8 San Francisco, CA Bimbo's 365 [w/ Elbow]
May 9 Los Angeles, CA - Avalon [w/ Elbow]
May 10 Los Angeles, CA - Spaceland
May 11 San Diego, CA - Soma
May 12 Phoenix, AZ - Brickhouse
May 14 Dallas, TX - House of Blues Cambridge Room
May 15 Tulsa, OK - Bob at Cain's
May 17 Kansas City, MO - Record Bar
May 18 Chicago, IL - The Bottom Lounge
May 19 Columbus, OH - The Basement
May 20 Detroit, MI - Shelter
May 22 Cambridge, MA - TT The Bears
May 23 Philadelphia, PA - Johnny Brenda's
May 24 New York, NY - Knitting Factory [8pm show]

alright, this is probably cheating in your eyes, but i'd have to say Depeche Mode. Because 90% of their music is keys-based (and some true piano). You have to give it to a band that releases a cover of a beethoven sonata as a bside.

Billy Joel. Cadillac-ac-ac-ac-ac

For me, it's first and foremost Keane (although their second album wasn't as good as the first), but Embrace would be a close second.

I'm going to have to go with Depeche Mode too. Always fun to see DM. My first show was 101 at the Rose Bowl, with OMD, Thomas Dolby & Wire as the opening bands.

Keane - without a doubt. Which at least 1-2 songs off this Air Traffic album seem to sound like based on their MySpace tracks.

According to last.fm[1], my favorite piano artists are Billy Joel and The Bad Plus. If you allow keyboards, I'd put Ampop in there.

so glad to see Billy Joel getting some love! He's got some great songs, no matter "uncool" he may seem :-)

Nothing wrong with Billy Joel (pre-1986, that is)
