Bluetones singer Mark Morriss unleashes solo debut

Mark Morriss has just posted four songs on his MySpace; and with a lovely folk-rock vibe it sounds like the best thing he's done since The Bluetones' 2000 album Science & Nature .

Mark's debut solo album Memory Muscle will be released in the UK on May 26th and he's currently touring that country supporting Inspiral Carpets (!) and Dodgy (!) at various shows.

Sadly, don't expect Mark (or the album) to ever reach U.S. shores.

Oh, I was just wondering about The Bluetones the other day.

What do you think went wrong with them? I mean, of course the whole Britpop thing faded away and thus their mainstream popularity, but I think they also started writing worse songs than they used to.

This solo stuff sounds good!
And supporting the Inspirals and Dodgy... what a world we live in today, amazing!

Science & Nature was their best album ever, but then Luxembourg and the self-titled album were just completely lame.

SUPPORTING Dodgy? There is no God.

I was really looking forward to that show they had lined up at spaceland (?) but then they cancelled. I've seen them once 8 years ago and have always thought they were class.

I've absolutely loved the Bluetones for the past 13 years - I first saw them at the Leeds Carling festival in 2000, then they played Leeds that same October.

I have never looked back since!

I saw Mark when he went on his solo tour last month in Leeds. I met him after the gig and he is so down to earth and incredibley polite! We had a good laugh, I ripped piss out of Scott (the bassist, and his brother) but I got away it, because the first thing I said to them was that I was drunk!!

Anyway, Mark suggested I try get to the York gig the night after, which I couldn't turn down, so the night afterm drunk again, I was singing along to his souldful tracks!

The album is amazing, and reminds me of the earlier Tones stuff, and Mark is on absolute top form!

Call me obsessed, but I will be venturing down to Manchester at the end of the month (having a big board meet up) and then Mark goes on yet ANOTHER solo tour in July, and is coming back to Leeds, and yes, I will be there!!

I love watching them. I think Mark is more at ease when he has his other 3 horsemen of the britpoplips with him, but still, he throws out an amazing solo gig, with lots of humour!

The Bluetones really do deserve more recognision then what they have - they truly are Legends!
