Here's the good stuff that's out in the U.S. on Tues Jan 22nd...

The Whitsundays - self-titled [Debut album from Edmonton 4-piece.]
"With reverent nods to the flower-picking whimsy of The Zombies and the haunting vocal harmonies of The Beach Boys, The Whitsundays' debut manages to transport the sounds of the '60s across the same updated palates employed by bands like The Shins and Belle & Sebastian."

Dead Confederate - self-titled EP [Debut from Athens, GA 4-piece.]
"Dead Confederate's music is intense - a lumbering, southern psychedelic grizzly that reveals itself like fireworks in slow motion. The songs build before they burst into giant melodic overtures."
- "The Rat" [mp3]
also out this week:
- MGMT - Oracular Spectacular [debut from NY duo]
- Cat Power - Jukebox [covers album]
- Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus! [Stream. Lame billionth album from Welsh 5-piece.]
Dead Confederate's song "Goner" is simply amazing!

question Torr:
Why do you have the myspace links for some bands like Dead Confederate, MGMT, Cat Power, etc.. but link the actual band website for The Whitsundays?
I generally like listening to a new band's music on their myspace page and noticed that sometimes you omit a bands myspace page.
Not a complaint, but was wondering why you decided to format the link that way?

hey woyo, I almost always try to link to the band's myspace, as opposed to their dot com.
However when the myspace page looks kinda dull/empty (like whitsundays does) I'll link to a diff site.
First impressions of new bands are very important, so I'm just trying to help them out :-)
