I Am Kloot Ready 4th Album

I Am Kloot will release their 4th album, I Am Kloot Play Moolah Rogue, in the UK in early '08. They've put 4 new songs up on their MySpace and they sound really good. This is a relief as I was starting to get worried after 2005's very weak Gods and Monsters.

Here's the deal though, one of the new tracks on their MySpace is a brilliant song called "Even The Stars", but apparently the song isn't gonna be on the new album. Perhaps it'll be a b-side? If the band/label is smart they'll make the song a single as it's a rocking little number that's probably their most commercially accessible song ever.

Here's a great brand-new 45 minute interview & session which includes "Even The Stars." In the interview he says that since they recorded the new album nearly live-to-tape, they only included the quieter/slower songs. He also implies that they'll do something with the other songs in the near future.

Who lives in Austin?

Does anyone here live in Austin, Texas? I ask because SXSW '08 (March 12-16) is just around the corner and my wife and I need help in buying wristbands, since they're made available in-person-only at Waterloo Records. Last year I bit the bullet and bought a $500 badge, but I can't bring myself to do that again this year. If you can help me out in procuring a couple wristbands I'll be sure to compensate you for your trouble. Thanks!

FYI: Last year the 1,000+ artist list was released in 02/08/07, the schedule was released on 02/17/07, and wristbands went on-sale 02/26/07.

Unsung Movie Of The Fall: Wristcutters

I recently saw a great little film called Wristcutters: A Love Story (IMDB) which I feel deserves some blog-love since it's made approx $0 in its theatrical run.

PLOT:

After Zia (Patrick Fugit, Almost Famous) cuts his wrists, he finds himself in an afterlife limbo that is much the same as his former reality, just worse. This strange realm is populated by people who have committed suicide, such as Eugene (Shea Whigham), a Russian rocker who lives with his mother, father and brother (all suicide victims.) Together they waste most of their death in bars, until Zia learns his ex-girlfriend has also committed suicide. He and Eugene take to the road to find her, picking up hitchhiker Mikal (Shannyn Sossamon) along the way. She insists there's been a mistake and she is seeking the "people in charge" in order to be sent back. This trio of lost souls forms an uncommon bond, road-tripping through the afterlife and meeting memorable characters including an undercover angel.

The film also has great supporting roles from John Hawkes (Me And You And Everyone We Know) and musician Tom Waits. I'm no fan of Waits' music, but he puts in a quite commendable acting performance here. The film is the feature-length directorial debut of a Croatian guy named Goran Dukic, is based on a novella by Etgar Keret, and apparently borrows elements from a C.S. Lewis book.

The movie has been out for a while so it's only in a few theaters now; I'll let ya know when it hits DVD. I think the film's lack of commercial success may have a lot to do with the slightly dumb/confusing ad campaign. I saw it all over town, but it never made me want to see the movie...
