Out in the UK on Monday

Thanks to Neil for reminding me that GoodBooks great debut album Control is out in the UK today (Mon July 30th)...

Picture of - Goodbooks Control

And as for chart activity, there's some bad news: The Thrills new album Teenager went in at #48! Owch. That's too bad as it's a great album. To put that into perspective, remember that So Much For The City got #3 and Let's Bottle Bohemia got #9.

Video clip: a third new Moz song!

Moz played a third new song the other night at the Jacksonville, FL show. It seems to be called "I'm Throwing my Arms Around Paris" and it sounds pretty good. It's a bit slower than the other two: "All You Need Is Me" and "That's How People Grow Up."

someone's guess at some of the lyrics:

And in the absence of love
i have decided I'm throwing my arms around Paris because
only stone & steel accept my love

In the absence of your smiling face
I traveled all over the place & I have decided
I'm throwing my arms around, around Paris because...

Nobody wants my love
Nobody wants my love
Yes you've made yourself plain

Introducing... Mono in VCF

Tacoma, Washington's Mono in VCF create haunting, darkly romantic orchestral music that wouldn't be out of place on the soundtrack a '60s Bond film. They're also one of the best new American bands of 2007. They're currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album, which was produced by Martin Feveyear (Jesse Sykes, The Village Green.) Earlier this year Jarvis Cocker chose them to open for him and they'll play the Bumbershoot Fest on Sept 2nd. Let's hope they come play in LA sometime soon.

Stream new Turin Brakes song

Head on over to Turin Brakes' myspace to stream the title-track of their upcoming 5th album, Dark On Fire (out in the UK Sept 17th.) It's a slow, dark, brooding number complete with strings. Good stuff! It won't be the first single though, that will be "Stalker" (out Sept 10th.)

Turin Brakes - Dark On Fire [produced by Ethan Johns. My fav stuff he's done? Rufus Wainwright's Poses, Brendan Benson's One Mississippi, and Ours' Precious)]

1. Last Chance
2. Ghost
3. Something In My Eye
4. Stalker
5. Other Side
6. Dark On Fire
7. Real Life
8. For The Fire
9. Timewaster
10. Bye Pod
11. Here Comes The Moon
12. New Star

"Bye Pod"? That's a silly song-title.

Update

Hey everyone, just wanted to post a quick note to say that the reason I haven't done any new posts in the past week or so is because I just got back from getting married in Maui. Wahoo! Julie and I have been together since 2001 when we were 21 years old (met at a Gay Dad show, beat that!) so it's about time. I'd never even been to Hawaii before so the whole week was quite a lot to take in. But the beach wedding and the honeymoon went off without a hitch and we're now back in our cozy little Studio City home. Anyway, just thought some of you might wanna know about this since you've been loyal readers for many years :-)

I now return you to our regularly scheduled posting of stuff that no one cares about but us...

Shed Seven have reunited for a UK tour! The 5-piece line-up will include guitarist Paul Banks [no relation to the Interpol "singer"], and it will be the first time Banks has appeared on-stage with the Shed Seven since 1999 [I saw 'em at V99!] The reunion plans do not affect the individual members' projects which will continue as before. This includes Rick Witter, who recently self-released a debut album with his [pretty crappy] new band The Dukes.

[thanks to Matt of The Scene for the heads-up!]
