Leeds 3-piece The Lodger are a slice of mid-80's indie-pop goodness. They release a double-A-side 7" single in the UK next Monday.
Here are the b-sides to the new Sigur Ros single "Hoppipolla" [the 1st UK cd-single off Takk.] The first track is a new version of a song from Von.

The Only Way
Last night I went to see The Sun / Shout Out Louds @ Gypsy Tearoom here in Dallas and was blown away by opening band The Rosebuds. They're a husband and wife duo; he plays guitar while singing lead and she plays keys and does backing vox. When playing live they're augumented by a drummer who also sings backing vox. They create a nice big sound (for a 3-piece) which melds post-Moz vocals with a taut, punchy North Carolina rock'n'roll sound.
The top two songs are from their latest (2nd) album Birds Make Good Neighbors.

The good stuff that entered the UK charts this weekend...
Singles:
#06 Gorillaz - "Dirty Harry"
#17 Stereophonics - "Rewind" [the billionth single from LSVO]
Indie-label singles chart (here are the ones that didn't make it onto the top 75 of the big-chart):
#12 I Am Kloot - "Maybe I Should" [e-card, a return to form!]
#14 The Decemberists - "16 Military Wives"
#17 Field Music - "If Only the Moon Were Up" [vid]
#39 Calla - "It Dawned On Me" [auto-plays at their site]
I'm surprised that The Automatic's "Recover" did not chart.
[thanks to LHB for pointing out this Aqualung interview from SFGate]
Q: What's the most irritating comparison you get?
A: Well, it's not irritating in that I have any particular issue with the band. It's just that it's such an unimaginative one, which is the Coldplay comparison. It's there in almost every single thing that's written. It just seems to me to be very lazy. So maybe that's the most tedious one.
Q: Good, I'll stick with Radiohead and James Blunt.
A: Oh, God.
Q: Why would you sacrifice a good song for an Ashton Kutcher movie?
A: I'm still licking my wounds.
Q: Do you think you can digitally go back and take his and Amanda Peet's face out of your video for "Brighter Than Sunshine"?
A: No, I guess not. It might be a pointless exercise. I don't really care, really. For a long time they were supposed to be the stars of that video, which would have been even more hilarious. Sadly, we had to make do with their pictures. [Note: the original video doesn't have them in it.]
Q: Has anyone at your shows demanded to see you play a flute solo while bouncing on one leg?
A: No. That hasn't happened at all. Not even in jest. I imagine a lot of people who are into Aqualung the band don't even know about Jethro Tull. They seem to be a much bigger deal with elderly DJs and classic-rock writers. I know there were people at the label who were worried for a while that people would think I was a tribute artist. There was also one review on Amazon where they were angry: "The new Jethro Tull album is s -- . It doesn't sound anything like their old stuff. There are hardly any flute solos." [Note: I don't see a review that says that]
Q: Congratulations on not hearing about Jethro Tull for the first 30 years of your life.
A: It doesn't really exist here. I don't know why you guys are fixated on '70s rock. I just thought it was a nice word. And then it suddenly turned out I was calling myself "Ticket to Ride," or "Layla." I really didn't know.
Q: That's the one thing we need to fix about this country.
A: Yeah, forget the foreign policy issues. You should focus on the Jethro Tull issue.
Stream a live radio-session by Mark Kozelek. He starts at the 17:40 mark and includes an interview and three songs: "Katy Song" (from Down Colorful Hill), "Dramamine" (Modest Mouse cover from Tiny Cities), and "Bubble" (from RHP II.)
Also, hear Emma Pollock (formerly of Delgados) perform two new solo songs here. She starts at the 17:09 mark and is accompanied by a keyboadist. She is now signed to 4AD.
