U.S. retail chart report

The New Pornographers reach a new chart and sales peak as Twin Cinema opens at #44 on the billboard charts with 19,000 copies sold. The group's last outing, 2003's Electric Version, spent one week at #196. While commercial terrestrial radio isn't playing the band, Sirius Satellite Radio's Left of Center channel has a pair of tracks in rotation. "Use It" ranked third on the channel's playlist for the week with 33 spins, while the album's title track earned 15 plays.

Six Feet Under Vol Two soundtrack gets a whopping 860% increase in the wake of the series' finale. The set debuts at #74. The last episode of the show aired Aug. 21 and featured a much-talked-about ending that was accompanied by the song "Breathe Me" by Sia. The song earned scattered airplay across a handful of commercial radio stations monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, including KDLD Los Angeles, KLLC San Francisco and WFNX Boston. It also got the attention of non-monitored public stations like KCRW Los Angeles, which played the song six times during the tracking week. Of the set's 14,000 copies sold last week, nearly 9,000 were sold digitally -- making it the top digital album of the week. The high digital number could be attributed to the fact that at Apple's iTunes Music Store, some of the album's tracks (including "Breathe Me") were only available if the customer bought the entire album.

BRMC's Howl goes in at #90 with sales of 11,888.

Aqualung's Strange And Beautiful is one the greatest sales-gainers of the week as it moves to #134. Total sales to-date: 69,466

Interpol's Antics re-enters at #179 with a 202% jump, thanks to a special edition of the album released last week. The altered version of the set includes a bonus CD. Total sales to-date: 371,421.

Minus the Bear's Menos El Oso goes in at #20 on the Heatseekers chart (artists who've never been in the top 100) with sales of 3,526.

DVDs out in the U.S. on Tuesday

DVDs:

This documentary chronicles a 10,000 mile journey around the U.S. in search of trackers, fanatical collectors of 8-Track tapes.

I'm not gay, and I sure as hell ain't republican, but this documentary might be good.

This was a cheesy-but-fun made-for-TV film from '99 about Steve Jobs & Bill Gates getting started in the 80s.

I keep seeing ads for this courtroom documentary while watching Al Franken Show on Sundance Channel.

I assume this is one of those documentaries with none of the band's music on it?

A classic, finally on DVD. Perhaps I Am Kloot are named after it?

Von says this is a cool Hungarian film, very David-Lynch-esque, with a good soundtrack too.

Stream clips from new Bunnymen album

Stream clips [doesn't work in firefox] from every track on the new Echo & The Bunnymen album Siberia. Once you're there click the little play button at the bottom, and you can also watch the video for "Stormy Weather", which is the first UK single.

Not so fun-fact: Bunnymen aren't playing Texas on their current tour, and they haven't played here since 1988! I however got to see them at the KROQ fest in LA in '97.

Update: I loved Evergreen and WAYGDWYL, but I didn't like Flowers or Slideling, so I wasn't expecting much from this new album, but it turns out it's quite good, be sure to buy it.

Update 2: You can stream the entire album here.

Out in the UK on Monday

The decent stuff that is out in the UK on Monday:

THR to support Stellastarr

Aaronlightsbw

The Hourly Radio will support Stellastarr at the following shows:

Sep 28 05 Trees - Dallas, TX
Sep 29 05 The Parish - Austin, TX
Oct 01 05 The Loft - Atlanta, GA
Oct 02 05 The Social - Orlando, FL

Are any of you gonna be able to make it to any of the above shows? I'll be at Dallas, of course.

Here's a short promo-video I recently threw together for THR. It was actually created for inclusion in a larger music-related video, whose purpose will hopefully be revealed in early Sept.

"Last night I dreamt..."

If I were a 14-year-old girl I would be all about these Smiths-inspired sheets. Moz actually sold a pillow-case with this lyric on it on a tour a few years ago. That's right up there with the "Let The Right One Slip In" condoms that were also sold on the tour.

[thanks to Rock Snob for the heads-up]
