U.S. retail chart report
The New Pornographers reach a new chart and sales peak as Twin Cinema opens at #44 on the billboard charts with 19,000 copies sold. The group's last outing, 2003's Electric Version, spent one week at #196. While commercial terrestrial radio isn't playing the band, Sirius Satellite Radio's Left of Center channel has a pair of tracks in rotation. "Use It" ranked third on the channel's playlist for the week with 33 spins, while the album's title track earned 15 plays.
Six Feet Under Vol Two soundtrack gets a whopping 860% increase in the wake of the series' finale. The set debuts at #74. The last episode of the show aired Aug. 21 and featured a much-talked-about ending that was accompanied by the song "Breathe Me" by Sia. The song earned scattered airplay across a handful of commercial radio stations monitored by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems, including KDLD Los Angeles, KLLC San Francisco and WFNX Boston. It also got the attention of non-monitored public stations like KCRW Los Angeles, which played the song six times during the tracking week. Of the set's 14,000 copies sold last week, nearly 9,000 were sold digitally -- making it the top digital album of the week. The high digital number could be attributed to the fact that at Apple's iTunes Music Store, some of the album's tracks (including "Breathe Me") were only available if the customer bought the entire album.
BRMC's Howl goes in at #90 with sales of 11,888.
Aqualung's Strange And Beautiful is one the greatest sales-gainers of the week as it moves to #134. Total sales to-date: 69,466
Interpol's Antics re-enters at #179 with a 202% jump, thanks to a special edition of the album released last week. The altered version of the set includes a bonus CD. Total sales to-date: 371,421.
Minus the Bear's Menos El Oso goes in at #20 on the Heatseekers chart (artists who've never been in the top 100) with sales of 3,526.
